Portfolio Reviews with Daniëlle van Zadelhoff
About Daniëlle van Zadelhoff
Dutch artist Daniëlle van Zadelhoff grew up in a family tradition with a strong interest in painting, sculpture, and art history. When she decided to pursue photography, she underwent a year of technical training in Belgium. Since 2013, she has been working professionally in her studio in Antwerp. Her first solo exhibition took place in the Netherlands in 2014. In addition to her solo exhibitions, Daniëlle van Zadelhoff has gathered attention in international group exhibitions, projects, and art fairs. Last year, she engaged with the audience at MoMA in San Francisco. By creating a visual language that approaches 17th-century painting with chiaroscuro (a technique involving the use of light and shadow), the photographer revitalizes the relationship between the past and the future. Daniëlle van Zadelhoff strives to make universal emotions that dwell in the depths of the unconscious visible through light. She explores themes such as loneliness, vulnerability, faith, and doubt.
