Induction
Known for her paper sculptures, multidisciplinary artist Sebahat Karcı’s installations explore the potential of paper, which is confined only by imagination.
As a graduate of Marmara University in Industrial Design, Karcı has been transforming paper into art in her Seb Studio, which she founded nine years ago. Her analogue methods yield unconventional forms and scales, demonstrating her skill in manipulating paper. This simple, everyday material is turned into a durable and captivating medium for artistic expression, taking viewers on an exciting journey of creativity and exploration.
Karcı’s site-specific installation, Tümevarım (Induction), initially gives the impression of a sterile mass with a smooth and rigid appearance. Yet, its polygonal structure evokes the image of mountains with irregular rock formations. The mountain figure, symbolising durability and stability, emerges from paper—a material that can be shaped and transformed. By utilising the distance between material and metaphor, Karcı creates a space that encourages viewers to reflect on the concept and the process behind the artwork.
