Moon for Sale / Warm Up
Czech photographer Miloš Nejezchleb employs visual contradictions and his definitive perfect colour combinations to craft exciting compositions. Nejezchleb likes to be in full control of the creative process. He scouts for locations and arranges the intricate staging for each shoot himself. He has a way of creating bizarre, dreamlike moments in overwhelmingly real locations. The artist relies on the elegance of gymnastics and ballet that defies conventional human abilities.
His 2018 series Warp Up features gymnastics champion Monika Vlčková in a pool series highlighting strength, balance and self-discipline in neon colours. The series turns into a linear narrative with limited colours and strong contrast defined by the athlete’s performance.
In his 2021 series Moon for Sale, Nejezchleb maintains a similar style in his approach to the interaction between space and the model. Models posing in synchronisation create an order in which actions take shape within patterns through repeated poses. The series is the artist’s criticism of consumer society, with bright balls representing the moon for sale. Nejezchleb makes characteristic colour choices, such as the retro blue that dominates this series. The tone of blue is reminiscent of the moon when it is occasionally seen during the day.
