Portfolio Reviews with James Kerwin

Born in 1982 into a British family, the artist lived in Norwich until January 2019. They have dedicated the last ten years to documenting the beauty of forsaken, dilapidated, or forgotten architectural wonders and have recently begun exploring ruins, heritage spaces, and deserted areas. Their journey into architectural photography began in late 2013, leading them to hidden corners and abandoned areas of cities around the world.

Their first series, “Decadence,” marked the beginning of their investigation into deserted buildings. Over the past decade, they have built a comprehensive portfolio featuring some of the world’s most fascinating places. Their approach to photography focuses on capturing clear lines and vibrant color palettes in the moment, followed by enhancing the images with modern post-processing techniques.

Their work has been recognized in numerous international competitions, winning both the ND Awards and the Chromatic Colour Awards in the Architecture category in 2017. In March 2018, they placed second in the Architecture category of the International Photography of the Year competition. In the exterior category, their 2019 photo “Circle of Trust,” taken in Beirut, Lebanon, was recently shortlisted for the 2021 Architectural Photographer of the Year award.

They debuted their books “Fabrica – A Journey Into Decay” and “Abandoned Lebanon,” published by Jonglez, in the autumn of 2021.
