Fusing performance, illustration, costume, and sound design into a dynamic puzzle, Wang Chen pushes the limits of his imagination. Born in China, Chen now lives and works in the USA. They seek the unknown by altering living spaces and environments. Taking his life story as a reference, he questions the concept of migration as an internal journey as much as a change in physical conditions. Their videos blend sweeping emotions about the transformation of identity, searches, uncertainties, and dreams. Anxiety, curiosity, excitement, and other feelings keep jiving in the big festival arena. The artist’s practice is as comprehensive as his content. Skilfully incorporating traditional methods into technological environments, Chen designs costumes inspired by Asian mythology and uses hand-painted motifs for digital landscapes. This fantastic world, enlivened with vivid choreographies, opens like a kaleidoscope, luring the viewer into the heart of the action.
