Between Chaos and Order: A Dance Experiment documents the creation of choreographer Rebecca Lazier’s 2016 contemporary dance work There Might Be Others, staged in New York City. The film follows Lazier’s attempt to translate Terry Riley’s 1964 minimalist composition In C into a structured system of 40 movement modules. Combining behind-the-scenes rehearsal footage with recordings of the live performance, the documentary traces how the project evolved from an initially unsuccessful structure into an improvisation-based performance. Making decisions in the moment, dancers from different countries move without being strictly synchronized to the music, creating compelling and unexpected intersections.
The screening will be followed by a talk with Metin Çavuş and Tan Temel.
The talk will be held in English.
The film screening has limited capacity and registration is required.
