A portrait is about much more than simply capturing a face. When light, space, and the photographer’s perspective come together, they can create a powerful visual story. Set within the timeless atmosphere of the historic Kethüda Hamam, this workshop invites participants to rediscover portrait photography through the interplay of light and space. In the first part of the workshop, we will explore how light can be read and directed within a space. In the second, hands-on part, participants will experiment with consciously constructing portraits using different types and directions of light, working with either cameras or mobile phones. As the direction, hardness, and softness of natural and artificial light transform the mood of a portrait, we will bring the subject, light, and space together as elements of a single visual narrative. Throughout the process, the unique architecture, textures, and natural light of Kethüda Hamam will become the central subjects of our photographic explorations.
