Today, beneath the foundations of the building known as Kurşunlu Han, once stood an ancient church dedicated to Saint Thecla, one of the most significant female figures of Late Antiquity and the “first female martyr” (protomartyr) in the history of Christianity.

Taking as its point of departure the question, “How was the voice of the woman who was once most widely heard in this geography and in this place made to be forgotten?”, the exhibition brings narratives of women that have been sought to be erased from history back into the public sphere through the works of contemporary women artists. The conceptual backbone of the exhibition, “Hadde”, focuses on the process of drawing metal through narrow openings under pressure, gradually reducing and refining it. While the heavy industrial and bolt-and-metal production taking place on the lower floor of Kurşunlu Han represents matter in its raw, resistant, and coarse state, the exhibition on the upper floor, centered on refined artistic production, interprets the trials endured by

Coinciding with the opening of the exhibition, the “Archive” theatre/sound performance will take place in the space, offering audiences the opportunity not only to experience a historic site, but also to witness a living excavation of memory.
