Perceived time is fluid; sometimes it passes by, sometimes it never passes at all. Einstein's theory of general relativity has already taught us that time actually flows, that it is inherently fluid. At the center of Volkan Kızıltunç's art lies precisely this concept of time and its inherent fluidity.

Focusing his conceptual research on the technological possibilities of visual media such as photography, film, and video, Kızıltunç creates works that reference both the fluidity of time and medium. The artist asks his subjects to look directly into the camera and pose for the photograph, achieving this through large format analog cameras that offer near-perfect lens quality and allow for the depth of detail.

It is evident how intensely the artist's mind focuses on this tool's effect on subjectivity and memory. While raising unconventional new question(s) about the politics of the act of viewing, Kızıltunç reveals the most personal, intimate, and private relationships established through images. As a "see/er" who has grasped that everyone has their own sonder—meaning "the realization that a random stranger passing by lives a life as vivid and complex as [our] own"—Kızıltunç shares this awareness with us from behind his lens.
