Immersion: Seeing Otherwise
Marta Syrko’s Immersion: Seeing Otherwise invites viewers to experience reality through the optics of water. Rather than treating water as a subject or symbol, Syrko uses it as an active medium that transforms light, movement, space, and the human body.
Through dramatic chiaroscuro, distorted contours, and sculptural forms, Syrko moves beyond conventional underwater photography, creating images with a painterly quality that at times recalls Baroque compositions. As water refracts light and dissolves familiar boundaries, the body becomes fluid and constantly reconstructed through the act of looking.
Extending beyond photography through a video installation, Immersion: Seeing Otherwise creates an environment where perception itself becomes part of the work, inviting viewers to slow down, immerse themselves in the image, and reconsider not only what they see, but how they see.
